Abraham Lincoln's Assassination

By Ariana Orvik & Billy Davis

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United states. Abe Lincoln was only 56 years old when he got shot. He got shot in the Fords theater in the back of the head. His wife, Mary Lincoln, was there to witness his death.

On the night of April 14, 1865, Lincoln went to the Fords theater to watch a play starring Laura Keene. Abe's bodyguard did a horrible job and left the theater. At the third act of the play, John Wilkes Booth shot Abe. The bullet went into the back of his head to the end of his right eye and it cracked his skull. Laura Keene saw this and shouted "The president is shot! The president is shot!".

When he was shot, he was paralyzed and he could hardly breathe. He was carried to a boarding-house right across the street of the theater. The doctor tried everything to save him for 9 hours. Every thing the doctor did failed. On April 14, 1865 at 7:22 a.m , Abe Lincoln died.

At almost the same time as when Abe was shot, Booth's partner, Lewis Paine, Attacked the Secretary, William Henry Seward. Paine sliced his throat twice. Then he fought through his sons, Frederick and Augustus Seward. Then he attacked the State Department messenger and a hospital corps veteran and escaped. A metal surgical collar saved William from dying.

On April 26 1865, Booth was captured and killed while hiding in a barn in Virginia. He has at least 4 partners that escaped. On July 7, 1865, his partners were found and captured. On the same day, Lewis Paine, George Atzerodt, David Herold, and Mary Surratt were hanged at Old Penitentiary. This happened on Present Day.
