Sherman's March to Atlanta

Sherman was the second General for the North on November 9,1864. To his troops he was known as Uncle Billy, but yet he was a very cruel and rough man! He trained the North soldiers until they didn't have energy to complain. He took the soldiers and marched to 6.Atlanta. they made every street in Atlanta burn into flames. The soldiers searched every house that they saw, for guns, wealthy items, and people. Then they would burn their houses down after they took what they wanted. After the houses, they would burn, kill, or even torture men, women, and children, under Sherman's orders. Some Northern soldiers just wanted to burn Atlanta and stop, just as a warning. Now, I know that in war you fight until the other side isn't breathing, but some how it seems that Sherman went a little far with things. If they said anything nice, helpful, or good about the Southern people, Sherman would get that person to know who he is fighting for. If people on the southern side that aren't in the war, but are helping the Southern Soldiers you would get hung in front of your children by the North. The children would go to live with the next door neighbors, unless their house was burned down, too. The Southern soldiers were to scared to kill Sherman themselves, which was good for Sherman. Also bad for Southern people because he ends up going all the way to the sea going through other Southern states. After all of this president 4.Abraham Lincoln told Sherman to end this situation and they all agreed to leave the Southern people alone. The Southern people had to bow down and put their guns in front of Sherman. Sherman, although hated this part of the war because he wanted ALL Southern people dead and gone. Although he had to do it because of the president's orders.
